When you’re homeschooling your child, you probably want to provide them with the best educational experience possible. That means providing your child with the resources that will help support their growing knowledge of reading, writing, and grammar. In order to do this, you need some ideas about how you can incorporate language arts into your homeschool curriculum. Fortunately, there are so many fantastic resources out there that make it easy for anyone to get started!

 Reading, Writing, and Spelling

  • Absolutely Ridiculous English Spelling – Examples, charts, word families and rhymes to aid you in learning your way through the maze of English spelling.
  • Bible Based Spelling – Free spelling lessons based on Old and New Testament stories. Included are worksheets, suggestions for teaching, and links to related activities.
  • CustomWritten.com – Provides writing tips for high school and college students. Features free articles on custom essay writing.
  • Handwriting for Kids – Handwriting for kids.  Free handwriting lessons to teach kids and adults how to write alphabets, numbers, sentences, bible school, scriptures, and even their name!
  • Literature Based Reading Lessons – Free reading lessons for elementary students based on popular chapter books including Boxcar Children and Little House in the Big Woods.. These lessons use a phonics approach and have been used successfully in a Christian school in Texas.
  • Magnum Opus Magazine – The Magnum Opus provides a safe place for budding homeschool writers to publish their writing ventures. Submissions not printed will placed on the website as well as those who did get printed.
  • USSpeller – USspeller is a Free American Online Spelling Tutor and Game for students and everyone wanting to improve their spelling skills. It features spoken (voiced) words, hints, dictionary and sentence prompts, and a large selection of word lists for all school grades. Also featured is a clever online keyboard game and typing tutor that works at the level of letters, words and sentences.
  • Vocab Test.com – Offers practice SAT Vocabulary Tests. It also has a section where you can create your own tests! Sixth grade through high school
  • Vocabulary University – FREE vocabulary puzzles to enhance vocabulary mastery.
  • Worksheet Genius – A free website full of printable worksheets, puzzles and activities that can be differentiated and randomized at the touch of a button.

 Grammar and Writing

  • Elements of Style – this is classic guide to writing by William Strunk Jr., now online!
  • The Online Writing Lab (OWL) at Purdue University houses writing resources and instructional material, and we provide these as a free service of the Writing Lab at Purdue.
  • RHL School – provides hundreds of free worksheets for teachers and parents to copy for their kids – English basics, reading comprehension

  • Writing a Basic Essay
